Vacation!

We had a great vacation! We left on Friday, August 13 around 6:30 AM heading for Kalamazoo, MI. The girls were great in the car and it took pretty much exactly 12 hours to get there, and we were so happy to get out of the car! We had a great dinner and visit with Nana & Papa and then on Saturday, we got up and headed into Chicago. We drove down Lake Shore Drive and I got a tear in my eye, I was so happy to be back in Chicago. It was a BEAUTIFUL day, and also the day of the air & water show, so kinda busy but we made it to Lincoln Park and found a parking place with no problem at all.

We walked down our old street, Dayton, past Brad and Rich's old apartment and then to CBA for a bagel lunch. Then, we headed to see the first place that Brad and I lived in together, and it looks just the same and it was even for rent! It was pretty cool to show the girls where we used to live but I could not imagine living there with kids! I was wishing I could have gone shopping at Lori's and All She Wrote, but we needed to get in the car and head to the Aquinos! We decided at the last minute to also drive past Wrigley, which was very cool!!

We arrived to Rich and Jen's after a long drive, and it was so great to see them and meet Bennett!!! We had a great visit with the three of them, and it was so fun to see the kids interacting with each other!

Sunday, we got up and had some super yummy cinnamon roll french toast and then we headed to Naperville to see the Carlsons. Lauren was really excited to see her cousin's house, since this trip is the first time we have been there since she was born. (I think she thought they lived at Nana and Papa's house since that is where we always saw them!) We went to the pool on Sunday afternoon and then Monday, we headed to the park and to a really cool candy store in downtown Naperville. Gabe got a lollipop and he shared with Alison, and she LOVED it!!! It was so funny because Annabelle and Ben got lollipops too, so she was able to get all of them to share with her. It was too cute!

Tuesday, we left Naperville and headed for South Haven around lunch time. We arrived a little bit after Nana and Papa and explored the house, which was super cute and perfect and a great distance from the beach! We went to dinner at the Thirsty Perch, and it was good, but it took FOREVER! And with two kids, it was a little ridiculous! Alison went to bed pretty soon after we got back but Lauren wanted to stay up until the Carlsons arrived.

Wednesday, we headed to the beach, and it was so perfect! We all had a great time! Lauren went in the water a little bit, but she mostly played in the sand. Alison didn't seem to mind the water either, but she also had a great time playing with a bucket of water and the sand. She didn't eat as much as I expected, which was good! All the kids had a great time and we headed back to the house for lunch.

Thursday, we went back to the beach and it was a little bit windier, but it was still really nice! Lauren didn't really want to go in the water much, but she had a great time in the sand again. We ended up going to lunch in downtown South Haven, which was fun with all the kids! And after lunch, we went to the toy store and Lauren got a "surf board" (aka kick board) that she used when we went back to the beach in the afternoon. It was really cute because she would get on and kick, kick, kick and she was very proud of herself! We had a little birthday celebration for Alison and I on Thursday night, which was fun!

Friday, we went back to the beach and Alison was having the best time playing with this big bucket of water and also chasing seagulls! It was so funny to see her trying to get them, and she could almost crawl fast enough to get to them. Lauren and Ben had a great time making sand soup, too. After lunch, Sarah, Helen & I went shopping in downtown South Haven and then when we got back, we all headed to the park. After dinner, we went down to the beach and played some whiffle ball, which was fun. I was glad to know that I could still hit the ball! Lauren and Annabelle were having a great time playing house in this little ditch that someone had dug out the of the sand.

We were all sad to leave on Saturday morning, but at least it was raining! Helen, Lauren and I headed to Chicago so we could visit the American Girl store. (Side note: Lauren decided to take Victoria in with her, not her American Girl doll, but she was wearing an American Girl dress!) Wow, is that place crazy!!! We had a great time. We went to the Bitty Baby section and Lauren got a couple new outfits for Abby, as well as a dress for herself that matches Abby's dress. Then, we walked around and saw all the different places they had for the dolls including the hair salon and the doll hospital! We went to the bathrooms and they had a doll hanger on the wall to put your doll on while you were using the restroom...they seriously thought of everything. We put our name on the list for the lunch, which I am glad we did because we were able to get in. It was such a cute little cafe, and they had a little seat for Victoria and they brought her a little tea cup and saucer, which Lauren thought was pretty cool! It was a great visit, and I am glad we were able to go!

Sunday, we got up early and headed east. The drive home was pretty much the same as the drive out....the girls were great, but we were all happy to be home!! We had a great time with the family!

Here are some things that I don't want to forget about vacation:
*Alison's first lollipop from Gabe
*Lauren & Annabelle calling themselves the "Super Sisters!"
*Alison chasing seagulls on the beach
*The guys playing football on the beach
*Lauren and Annabelle "sharing" a room...Annabelle would be moved into the other bed in Lauren's room after they were both asleep
*Lauren jumping the waves with Brad's help
*Lauren & Annabelle wearing each other's clothes all week long
*Gabe's fascination and love for Alison
*Ben obsessing over Silly Bandz
*Lauren telling someone at the beach "We're silly sisters and I just peed in the lake!"
