Busy May!!

Shoo, I can't believe that it's already summer break, but boy did we have a busy May!  Brad went to Dubai for the week the first week of May and it was derby week here in Louisville, so there were a couple of big events for the Kindergators at Goshen.

First was the Kindergarten Parade.  Each kindergartener made a float out of a shoebox and decorated it however they wanted to.  Some of them were very elaborate, but Lauren made hers pretty much all by herself.  It was so cute because they played "My Old Kentucky Home" over the loud speaker and they processed through the whole school.

The next day was the Kindergarten Derby Race, which was quite a production.  Each student made silks, a foam horse head, and and horse for their arm.  They split them up into 12 races, and the winner of each race went to the winners circle and they had one last race determine the winner.  They actually had to run the final race twice because someone got tripped the first time and no one was able to see the winner!  Each student got a rose, and they sang "My Old Kentucky Home" before the race.  The music teacher played the trumpet voluntary before each race as well.  Lauren's horse was named "Great Runner."

Brad flew back into town on Friday, the day of the Oaks.  I picked him up at the airport, then we went to my mom's house so he could shower and change and then we headed to the Oaks.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day, and we had a great time!  I won a little bit of money on the last horse, but not much luck on the ponies yet again!!

The Monday after Derby, Lauren's class went to the zoo and I was the chaperone.  We had a cloudy day, which was actually pretty nice because it wasn't so hot.  We saw lots of animals and did a little class at the Meta Zoo.

Alison's class did the presentation at school in the last chapel.  They sang two songs, and they did a great job!  Miss Jennifer picked two songs that mostly just had motions, and not much singing which was a good choice since most of the kids are pretty shy.  Poor Drew didn't even get up there he was so scared!

The girls friend Morgan had her birthday party at a horse farm, and they girls had a great time riding the horses and also painting a horse.  I was kind of surprised that Lauren even rode the horse, but she rode three different times.  And Drew had a great time running around the barn and saying Hi to all the horses they had there.

Alison's last day of school was May 16, and they had a little family fun day after graduation.  They had hot dogs, and a magic show.  It was so cute to see Alison with her friends Gracie and Kayla.

Lauren's class had a little writing presentation the Friday before the last day of school.  Each child showed their family a story they had written using the Big Universe program on the computer.  Lauren's writing has really improved over the year, and she was so proud to show us.  Mrs. Banbury put together a slideshow of the entire year, and it was set to music.  As soon as "You don't know You're Beautiful" came on, the whole class stood up and did an impromptu dance routine, it was so funny!  Her friend Sadie also came over for a sleepover that night.  Drew was fascinated by her, it was too cute!  They did great, and I was so happy they included Alison with no problem.

Memorial Day weekend, we did a lot of landscaping outside, and we went to the Mauzy's new house to check out their pool and then we went to a Bats game on Monday.

It was a nice day, but the kids required a lot of attention!  We were only able to watch about 2 batters, but we still had a good time.

The month ended with Brad's birthday, a visit from Nana & Papa,

and the girls dance recital.  We had quite a group in the audience for the recital, and after dinner, Alison went around and gave everyone a hug, she was very appreciative of everyone!
